Brooks Funeral Directors located at 1702 5th Ave. sits on the historic site known as TheWagonYard. From 1890 - 1921 it served as a place to circle the wagons and water the horses. This Ranchman's Headquarters later housed a funeral home that has been serving Canyon and area families since the late 1920's. First as Griggs-Thompson Funeral Home. Later it became Griggs-Warren Funeral Home and then Warren-LaGrone Funeral Home. It then became LaGrone Funeral Home and later Schooler-Gordon Funeral Home. Roland Brooks has worked at the funeral home in Canyon since 1985. He became manager of Schooler-Gordon Funeral Home in 1987 and then purchased the funeral home on May 1, 1992 and changed the name to Brooks Funeral Directors of Canyon, Inc. In 1997, to better serve our friends to the south, the historic Presbyterian Church in Happy, Texas was purchased and completely renovated to form a second Brooks Funeral Directors location.
