Welcome to Brussels - the news centre of Europe and one of the reporting hubs of the global media system. Each year thousands of journalists and media people come to the city to cover some of the biggest stories on the world news agenda. When they arrive they join a community of almost 1,000 foreign correspondents and Belgian reporters already acclimatised to the city's fast-track media culture.

However, for newcomers it is not easy to hit the ground running. Brussels has lots of charm (good bars and famously rich food, of course) but there are many pitfalls too - rules about accreditation, a labyrinthine maze of political and corporate corridors, and some baffling Belgian regulations about residence and taxation. In order to make life a little easier for media people in Brussels we have therefore set up a help desk called Journalists @ Your Service.

Journalists @ Your Service is a partnership project between AGJPB/AVBB (the Belgian Journalists' Union), API (Association de La Presse Internationale), the EJC (European Journalism Centre), the IFJ (International Federation of Journalists), the International Press Centre Résidence Palace and the local branch of the NUJ (the British and Irish Journalists' Union). It provides professional advice, assistance and a wide range of services to journalists visiting or working in Brussels. It is based in the new International Press Centre Résidence Palace, which is conveniently situated in the heart of the 'European Quarter' next door to the European Council and within walking distance of the European Parliament, the European Commission's Press Centre and most of the European Commission's offices.
