edit Title
Retreat and Resort: Welcome to Buckhorn Springs
edit Description
In 1988 the Sargent family purchased Buckhorn Springs. After spending a year getting Buckhorn placed on the National Register, work was begun on the goal of completely restoring the existing buildings and grounds.
A lot of money and time was put into restoration in the first three years, however the creation and operating of Buckhorn Springs as a Country Inn soon demanded all possible resources and progress on the restoration was temporarily suspended. After nine years as a Country Inn, the Sargents made a decision to change Buckhorn into a retreat facility. Although we still welcome old timers and personal retreats when they fit into the schedule, groups are now the main stay of Buckhorn.
In 2000 restoration began again at Buckhorn, at a slower and more sustainable pace than in 1989-92. The non-profit Buckhorn Mineral Springs was also begun in 2000 and has attracted two grants for restoration work projects, which have been completed, as well as many members. The non-profit’s goal for Buckhorn is to physically restore and maintain the buildings and grounds as they were in the 1890’s and 1930’s. Our hope is to attract enough compatible business to sustain the preservation by offering groups a chance to step back in time and experience rejuvenation through a slower paced and more relaxed atmosphere. In that manner, everyone who comes to Buckhorn will play a part in preserving this exceptionally special land and a significant piece of the history of Southern Oregon.
