Buffalo Report

Description

The first issue of Buffalo Report was posted March 1, 2002. When Buffalo Report began, nearly all the articles were by me; now they're mostly by other people. Currently, the contents are a mixture of articles written specifically for Buffalo Report and links to some of the best and most interesting political and cultural material appearing elsewhere on the web.

Buffalo Report began as a personal venture: the weekly newspaper I was writing for put no-fly zones around certain politicians and developers so I went to the web, where there were no censors and scoundrels had no immunity. But it quickly became communal. Readers began sending articles they thought other readers would find of interest, and their contributions defined the site and the readership as they went along. Many readers continue to send links for inclusion, and a group of about ten people regularly scans portions of the web for articles that might be appropriate. Our sense of "appropriate" has been constantly developing as things happen and as good or useful writing becomes available. I do the final choosing from the material submitted every day and I do the mechanical work of maintaining the site and sending out emails listing new postings, but the overall process remains collaborative.

Buffalo Report is free and will be free as long as we keep publishing it. The best way to contribute to the operation is to send us good links or good writing. Readers wanting to support our efforts financially can do it painlessly and transparently by making some of their Amazon.com purchases through the Amazon.com button on the right side of our home page. The prices you pay are the same as if you went to Amazon.com directly, but they send us a small percentage, which we apply to the cost of bandwidth on the server.
