When Jacob was born in March of 2003, I was faced with a tough decision that challenges many women. Should I go back to work (as an education and child care lawyer), or should I make a career change and devote 100% of my time to being a mom?
Well, my husband and I gave it lots of thought, and we chose the latter. The choice we made was definitely the right one for us, and I love my new job! Whether we are reading a story, tasting a food for the first time, or saying a new word, each day is a new and exciting experience for Jakey and me.
That being said, being a full-time mom also creates a whole new set of challenges (...never mind the obvious sleep deprivation and 'first-time-mom learning curve'). For one, simple errands once taken for granted become full-day productions. When my son was an infant, it took more time getting the two of us ready and in & out of the car, than it did to run the actual errand. Even better, if we ventured out just to buy Jakey something "fun," chances are he'd be (& still is) ready for a snooze by the time we reached our destination!
