Description
This used to say that I'd like a real job similar to what I do here, developing database code and Web sites with PHP and MySQL, or maybe doing systems administration on Linux. Then I went and got said job. Unfortunately, it's mixed in with a lot of other not-as-much-fun parts, but aren't most jobs?
As you can probably tell, I have no formal training in any sort of critiquing or professional writing. (My first two degrees are in physics, and my third in Education.) I've been a TV and movie junkie for most of my life, so I signed up for this when Dave put out a call for volunteers. I'm currently working a new job that's consuming about 70-80 man hours a week, so my reviews will be coming out more slowly this summer than previous years.
I'm a geek, an open source zealot, a sci-fi fan, and a (mostly) amateur writer. The geek part means that I'm unemployed (newly graduated) and I'm looking for a job - any job, really. Preferably something that involves linux, or writing, or both. As you can possibly tell when I DO write (not something I've done a lot of for THIS site yet) that I'm still getting the hang of the writing of a review. I tend to go on at length about some details - not entirely bad when one is writing fiction, but not a great idea when writing a review. We'll see how well I pick this up. Thanks for bearing with me so far.
