Founded in 1994, Burn Survivors Online (BSO) is a leading interactive Internet resource providing general medical information on burn injuries and a range of avenues offering peer support for burn survivors and their families. Through the World Wide Web, BSO is able to reach out to people in need, no matter where they reside.
Before the advent of the Internet, support for those suffering a burn injury was available through limited local support groups (when available) and/or family members, friends, and caregivers. The advantage of BSO on the Internet as a medium for Burn Survivors is that it allows easy access to information related to burn injuries, as well as providing a network of support facilities. Through BSO, a Burn Survivor, family member or caregiver has a greater chance of locating the subject matter that will help them the most.
The burn survivor of today has many new technologies to help in the physical healing and recovery.
