Buy-Our-Honeymoon.com is a honeymoon registry service

Buy Our Honeymoon

Buy Our Honeymoon is a fabulous new website for the modern bride and groom who already have everything they need for their home. A new type of bridal registry allowing wedding guests to buy the happy couple the gift of memories: a part of their honeymoon.

Instead of buying you a steam iron or a set of towels, your guests could give you a balloon flight over the Serengeti or a sunset dinner cruise in the Maldives. Create your ultimate fantasy wishlist to transform your honeymoon into the trip of a lifetime.

How it works

Couples can register with the site and build their own honeymoon wedding list using the site's easy-to-use system. Their guests can then view the couple's list pages and choose the items they'd most like to buy as a wedding gift — show tickets, a romantic meal, a local excursion or a contribution towards a first-class flight upgrade.

Guests pay the value of their gift directly to the couple, either in cash on the day of the wedding, or by making a PayPal payment into the couple's account then and there.

They can also download a gift certificate to present to the happy couple, and leave a personal message that's recorded forever in the couple's special Gift History.

Zero service charge

Unlike other similar services, Buy Our Honeymoon does not charge a commission on gifts. Instead, couples can sign up for a free, no-obligation 7-day trial. At any time, they can choose to pay a single, one-off activation fee. The standard honeymoon registry service costs £55 ($64 in the USA), and a unique gift research service is available for an additional fee.

Because the site doesn't hold any funds on behalf of the couple, their gifts are available to them the moment they're given. If the couple choose to collect payments from their guests immediately through a PayPal account, PayPal's fees and restrictions apply.

Themes

Buy Our Honeymoon has a range of beautiful list designs from which couples can choose. These themes give each list a distinctive personality and visual interest, and justify the site's claim to offer "the most romantic gift list ever!"

James and Melanie's Honeymoon Paradiso Bea and Art's Road to Bali Daniel and Katherine's Island Paradise Jenny and Aidan's European Vacation Amy and Steven's Egyptian Honeymoon Expedition Hugo and Freya's Vegas Honeymoon

The site offers a number of sample honeymoon gift lists that demonstrate both the range of themes available, and the flexibility of the honeymoon registry format.

Tips on making the most of your honeymoon registry

As well as providing couples with a handful of list suggestions when they register, the site offers a set of "ten top tips for making the most of a honeymoon gift list":

  1. Price your items carefully. Include something for everyone’s budget. However, don’t underestimate your guests’ generosity. If they want to spoil you, let them. Make sure you include some real once-in-a-lifetime treats.
  2. It’s useful to allow multiple guests to buy you certain items (you do need many bottles of champagne). It also means there’s always something available to buy from your list.
  3. Try not to be tempted to simply fill your list with contributions to things. Psychologically it’s important for your guests to feel what they’ve bought is special, unique and important to you.
  4. Car hire, accommodation and air fare are all useful items to include, but consider listing upgrades instead. It’s so much more appealing to your guests, who’ll want to feel that they’re giving you the time of your life, and not just paying for a normal holiday.
  5. Be as specific as you can be in your descriptions. You may change your mind later (your guests really won’t mind) but Jazz at Truman’s Bar (the oldest in NYC) is so much more evocative than An evening of jazz. This also helps your guests to feel they are genuinely buying you a gift and not just making a cash donation. Asking for your honeymoon is quite an abstract concept, so the more you can make it concrete, the better.
  6. Write your descriptions in the first person — “We’ll take an sunset dinner cruise” rather than “Take a sunset dinner cruise”. This makes your list feel much more personal, and less like a travel brochure.
  7. Make your lists fun and attractive. Guests are more likely to enjoy using your list, and to appreciate why you haven’t used a traditional wedding registry. Choose the theme that suits you best, divide your list into plenty of categories, and make those adjectives work for you!
  8. Appeal to your guests’ sense of romance and luxury. Include candlelit dinners, carriage rides and anything at sunset!
  9. Give your items interesting titles. Instead of Contributions to Car Hire, why not The Open Road or The Wind in Our Hair ..?
  10. Make it reflect your personality. Fun and funky? Elegant and romantic? The choice is yours. Make your list reflect that.

Background information

The site was launched to the public in April 2007. It was first created, however, in 2005 specifically for the founders' own honeymoon wedding registry. Their wedding guests' enthusiasm and generosity made their epic, 3000-mile road trip across the Deep South of the USA a truly once-in-a-lifetime experience.

The site has been featured on Mashable, Offbeat Bride, Rock My Wedding, The Broke-Ass Bride, Rock n Roll Bride, The Honeymoon Project, AisleDash, Matador Pulse, KillerStartups, weddingtv.com, Bridalwave and Glamour.com.

Buy Our Honeymoon was Highly Commended in the Wedding Ideas Awards 2010.

Featured Text -- As we move toward summer in the Northern Hemisphere, it's the time of year for outdoor weddings and honeymoons. And the web wouldn't be anything if it didn't offer some great sites to help facilitate the happy nuptials. Fortunately at AboutUs, there's some great WikiPages built out for prospective brides, grooms and wedding attendees. If these WikiPages are at all lacking, it's the personal touch of having AboutUs readers adding their own "Community Reviews" to share their experiences with these websites and their services, so if you give them a try (or already have), let the rest of the world know what you think:
