Garry Winogrand, one of the greatest “street photographers” of all time, was once asked how long it took him to make one of his complex, masterful black-and-white images. “1/125th of a second,” he replied. But greatness truly cannot be measured by duration or effort. A great poem can be of epic length or three lines long, and a picture can take months of painstaking preparation or be dashed off in a second or less.
