- Stillwater Christian Retreat was formed by Jeff and Jan Hamburg of Dunn, NC. God called them to the mission’s field in April 2002...only 2 months after giving their hearts to Christ...10 days apart from each other. (Jan on Feb.7, 2002 and Jeff on Feb.17, 2002.) They felt they had wasted enough time in fulfillment of their own material wants and needs...and surrendered to God's call...to go to the mission field. They spent the next few months trying to figure out where it was God wanted them to go. Willing to pull up all stops...and follow the Lord's will for their life, feeling they had wasted enough time in material greed and pursuing the ways of the World...they prayed and waited for God to reveal where their mission field was to be. Through sermons, songs (with Christian lyrics), and the Holy Word of GOD (...the Bible...and scriptures) GOD revealed to Jan and Jeff that their mission field was to be HERE...in North Carolina. That they were to build a camp...to honor God....where people could come to learn about God's son, Jesus Christ...the risen Savior. (Psalm 46:10). Where people who were already Christians could come to renew their walk with the Lord, and have the Lord speak to them here....at Stillwater. (Psalm 23:2-3) In this world of busy, hustle, bustle, the cell phones, the pagers, the careers, that for a few days...Christians could come here...to retreat....and leave all that behind...and BE STILL, and Know that HE is GOD. Also, that people of all ages could come here, and learn about Jesus Christ, and give THEIR hearts to HIM here. And become Christians.
