HISTORY - Founder David Garvin established Camping World in 1966, responding to requests by a growing contingent of campers and RVers visiting his father’s amusement park in Bowling Green. After securing a $5,000 loan, Garvin opened a small store in the park offering an assortment of RV parts and accessories. The catalyst for the operation was sparked by Garvin’s foresight to amass a mailing list, leading to the first mail-order catalog and the birth of Camping World. Camping World was acquired by the Affinity Group, Inc., of Ventura, California, in April, 1997, a membership management and publishing company.
Two major initiatives began in late 2002. Camping World performed major renovations to its existing stores while strategically expanding into new markets through the Gold Medal RV Dealer Program.
