Orange Door Candle Co.

Description

Orange Door Candle Co., formerly Candles By Kate, is located in Clearfield, Pa. Although the name of the company changed recently, the ownership, unique candles and great customer service are the same.

I began crafting candles in early 2002 as a hobby. I was working at Michael’s craft store at the time, and the books we had on candle making intrigued me. I bought some wax and a mold and started experimenting. I remember starting out with one scent and a pack of three basic colors – that didn’t last long. Soon I had bought practically every item we stocked in the store – molds, different waxes, all the colors of the rainbow, several scents and a few different wicks. As my passion for pouring candles grew, so did my collection. A girl can only burn so many candles herself! After I had tested (… and tested and tested some more… ) my formulations, and knew I had a safe product, I started giving candles away to my friends and family. I would give them as gifts or just randomly because I was running out of storage space. At that time, I did all my pouring in the kitchen.

I soon discovered that the more candles I gave away, the more people were asking to buy them. At first I didn’t even consider selling - I was just having fun with a great new hobby I had discovered a passion for. But as my passion grew, so did my knowledge of different waxes, fragrances, wicks and dyes that were available. I tested items from suppliers all across the United States to find the highest quality components available to produce a high quality candle that not only smells fabulous, but also burns great. With these new “ingredients” I was buying came a higher price and selling started to make sense. So “Candles By Kate” was born. I sold to my family and friends, and soon I was selling my candles to their friends. All of my candles are made to order – I know from personal experience that my favorite fragrances and their traditional colors didn’t always match my décor. Who wants a bright red candle in a room that is decorated in blue, tan and green? So I made my hot apple pie scented candles in blue, tan and green to match my living space.
