Pleasant Mattress Company, producer of Cannon Sleep Products, was originally founded in 1959 as the Pleasant Bag Company. Ernst “Ernie” Morgenstern and his wife Greta immigrated from Vienna, Austria in 1939. Ernie used his new found freedom to create an industrial rag and bag company. Buying unusable clothing from the Salvation Army, Goodwill and other “thrift” stores, Ernie turned the material into rags and bags for local industries.
