Title

Canon Magazine- Arts, Ideas, Words

Description

Since its original inception in 1988, Canon has sought to create more of a learning community at The New School for Social Research, particularly among students. The magazine is an interdisciplinary forum for student scholarship and perspectives on subjects both in and out of academia. The magazine proudly remains free from being entrenched in a particular academic discipline and uniquely aims to represent the intellectual passion of the student body of The New School for Social Research as a whole. Following in the honored footsteps of Hannah Arendt and Reiner Schurman, Canon supports the concept that our city, society and world are classrooms and that the public is, indeed, a realm for the intellectual.

One of the intents of the magazine is to introduce readers and contributors to a wider gambit of social discourse beyond specialized discussions that often take place in academia. Also, Canon stresses the importance of writing clear, interesting, and argumentative prose and working with one's peers to cultivate a strong piece of writing. Canon also welcomes submissions of fiction and poetry.
