My mother, who will be 85 continues to help in the nursery by taking cuttings for a few hours every morning. She does a meticulous job.
Rebecca is the cheerful, enthusiastic person who often has the phone duty, and in the above photo besides talking on the phone is preparing plants for shipping. The paper we use is freezer wrap, coated with wax on one side. We lay down a thin layer of damp peat moss, set the root ball on this, spread another handfull of peat on top, then uses a bit of fine wood excelsior to form a collar around the top of the plant. The plants are then tightly rolled like burritos. It is a tedious process, but insures they are received in good condition.
