- Dave Karcher is a retired Aerospace Engineer who designed filament wound rocket motors. Dave Karcher is also a recumbent bike enthusiast. By combining his composite design experience with his desire for the ultimate custom built recumbent bike, he has produced the CarBent. It took over two years to design the CarBent. Three different prototypes were built and tested before the final configuration was selected. A dual 650 high racer was built and tested, a Velokraft VK2 racer was purchased and tested, and numerous versions of the current design were built and tested. The final configuration was selected for it's light weight, low aerodynamic drag, and higher visibility for auto drivers.
