Council for Assyrian Research and Development

Description edit

CARD's origins are rooted in one very basic question, "How can the Assyrian community in Canada begin to contribute to Canada's political fabric, and at the same time, articulate its needs and concerns as Canadians to the government?" A two-part solution was provided for this very basic question. On the one hand, CARD strives to be a research and analysis body in the fashion of a think-tank on Assyrian sociopolitical issues. On the other hand, CARD hopes to provide a facilitative service to the number of Assyrian organizations and structures in Canada working for the people. CARD hopes to facilitate the interaction of such groups in the Canadian political sphere by providing expert advice, professional services such as writing and communications, and finally liaison functions bringing the Assyrian community closer to the government of Canada in a mutually beneficial relationship.

In terms of its founding principles, CARD believes in the need for unity and mutual respect between the diverse groups that comprise the Assyrian people. Therefore, CARD is constantly seeking to establish a representative balance between Chaldean, Syriac, Jacobite, Nestorian, and other peoples of the Assyrian community in Canada and abroad. Furthermore, tribal identity, faith and Middle Eastern national identity are all set aside in pursuit of establishing and affirming the fundamental unity of the Assyrian people.

Put simply, CARD members aspire to be nothing more than servants of their people, a force for unity and standard bearers of the ambition and dignity of our ancestors.
