Antigua (pronounced An-tee'ga), sister Island of Barbuda and Redonda, is located roughly 17 degrees north of the equator, in the middle of the Leeward Islands. It lies in the Eastern Caribbean Sea and to its south are the Islands of Monsterrat and Guadaloupe, both of which can be seen from the house. The Island is volcanic in origin, its ancient craters now a multitude of coves and harbours.
It is the largest of the British Leeward Islands measuring approximately 14 miles long and 11 miles wide (108 square miles). Its highest point, Boggy Peak (1319ft) is located in the South-western corner of the Island. Antigua's capital is St Johns, and the entire Island's population just 68,000.
