Description
My paintings are the product of my dreams and experiences. They speak of hope and love, and the mysteries in life. My work expresses the harmony between individuals, between people and animals, people and nature, within a person’s soul. Although the pieces reflect my optimistic attitude towards life they are not naïve, rather they come from an understanding that sadness is part of our lives but joy is a more desirable place to dwell.
My ideas come from anything that touches me. They are a product of my life. There is magic in ordinary experience. There is romance in practical things. Interiors reflect evenings at home with my husband and cats but in this realm cats and fish can fly. Jungle and ocean images reflect my travels to Belize and Hawaii. The angel series draws from an encounter with a man at the post office who needed instruction in how to use a mailbox, a trip to Italy, and my reaction to the world situation of the last two years.
Color brings my imagery to life. Luscious, tropical color is my realm and, even when I’m not visiting a tropical place, it’s the filter that organically shapes my vision. I build my paintings in translucent layers to create a vibrant quality. Layer by layer I give life to the painting. Although the compositions are designed and defined, there is no gravity in my visual world. The figures often inhabit ambiguous spaces, places where sky and water flow into one another and where light and darkness merge. They are frequently caught in a moment of being or becoming, for it is in that moment that all dreams are possible.
