Description

For 10 years the Heritage Map Museum displayed the collection of James E. Hess in a large and beautiful facility in Lititz, PA. In May of 2003 the primary Museum was closed. The "Museum" is now basically a small sales gallery displaying 16th to 19th century originals and Antique Map Prints. Consultations or sales by appointment only.

Lititz is located in the heart of Amish country in the community of Lititz, Pennsylvania. The Amish Community is an Anabaptist religious sect, somewhat similar to the Mennonites of Swiss-German origin. It has maintained the dress and lifestyle of the eighteenth century, choosing to practice religious faith in peace, and has limited social contact with the modern society surrounding it. The Amish are successful farmers and craftsmen who use no electricity, and rely on the horse and carriage for transportation. The fascinating history, traditional agricultural way of life, and early American architecture of the area makes Lititz a popular tourist attraction.
