Description

Ron Coleman started cartooning as a young teenager. He answered an ad in Popular Mechanics Magazine, which promised "EARN BIG MONEY DRAWING SIMPLE CARTOONS." Eagerly, Ron sent for more information and was told about a correspondence course being offered by Cartoonists' Exchange in Pleasant Hill, Ohio. With money he earned from his paper route, Ron signed up for the course and studied cartooning in his spare time. After completing the course, he started submitting cartoons to magazines, and finally, about a year later, alas! He landed his first sale with a trade magazine for the Optical Journal and Review of Optometry. In time, he began to sell regularly to other small trade publications, and the rest, as they say, history! Ron was on his way. Publications that followed were, Palomino Horses, Grain and Feed Journal, and Computing News. (Of course, this was back when computers were wall sized Univac machines...not the compact little PC's we have today!)

In 1975 he published his first book of cartoons entitled, Lady Luck Ain't No Lady. The book, published by Gamblers' Book Club, in Las Vegas was a beginner's effort, and is still available. The book contains about 60 popular images.

As part of his vast experience, Ron studied at the Screen Cartoonists' Guild in North Hollywood, California, and taught himself the mechanics of animation. Over the years, Ron has created and sold his cartoons to hundreds of books and publications, both large and small. Such publications include, Official Detective, Saturday Evening Post, and the ever so popular, Chicken Soup for the Soul.
