Salt Lake County is located on the East side of the Great Salt Lake. It is the state's largest county with a population approaching 1 million. The county houses a third of the state's residents. The county includes the state's capitol, the primary state University, and several major ski areas (Alta, Brighton, Snowbird and Solitude).

The cities include Salt Lake City (the county seat), Alta, Bluffdale: Cottonwood Heights, Draper, Herriman, Holladay, Midvale, Murray, Riverton, Salt Lake City, Sandy, South Jordan, South Salt Lake, Taylorsville, West Jordan, and West Valley City. There is also a number of townships and unincorporated areas.
