The Sikh Missionary College is an organisation for propagating the Sikh Religion which was established on May 30, 1980 at New Delhi, India by Gursikhs from Delhi & Punjab. It was decided to form a Supreme Council of nine founder members to run the organisation.

S. Harbhajan Singh of Ludhiana was appointed the President of the organisation and it was decided to setup the head office of the organisation in Ludhiana.

The founder members and other leading members were already associated with the study and propagation of Sikhism for about 15 to 20 years. Therefore despite being a new organisation Sikh Missionary College established itself as a leading organisation in the field of propagation of Sikhism. Today, nineteen years after its foundation it is considered next only to Shiromani Gurdwara Prabhandhak Committee, Amritsar. In addition to the head office at Ludhiana it has sub-offices at Delhi, Chandigarh, Jalandhar and Jammu .There are approx. 450 Study-Circles in India and other countries of the world which are engaged in propagating the faith.

To serve the community well and to conserve all resources for propagation of religion only, the organisation has kept aloof from all kinds of political activities.

Main Objects of the Organisation are :

   * To propagate the teachings of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji among the whole humanity and to counter the influence of illiterate, pedantic, hypocrites posing as Gurus.
   * To prepare authentic literature on Gurbani interpretation, Sikh history and culture.
   * To encourage youngsters who have gone astray to re-establish their link with Sikhism.
   * To baptize all Sikhs with the Amrit of Guru Gobind Singh Ji and to encourage others to adopt Sikhism.
   * To train Nishkam Missionaries for propagating the Sikh Faith without leaving their occupations.
   * To enlighten the Sikh youth about their rich heritage and to safeguard them from drugs & other intoxicants.
   * To adopt the Values preached by Gurbani in Sikh society.

To achieve the above aims & objects the following projects have been taken in hand:

   * Authentic Literature:
     More than 200 books/booklets in Punjabi, Hindi & English have been published.

   * Sikh Phulwari :
     This monthly magazine was started in Punjabi in August 1980. Its present circulation is approx. 86,000. The Hindi edition was started later and has a circulation of about 4500.

   * Correspondence Course:
     The Sikh Missionary Course of two years duration is conducted by correspondence. Its aim is to prepare missionaries alongside giving knowledge of Sikhism. About 33,000 students have enrolled in the course of whom about 2,800 have completed the course already.

   * Regular Missionary College :
     This was started in July, 1995 at the birthplace of Khalsa, Anandpur Sahib. Presently the college is functioning from a rented building and the college's own building is coming up alongside. Thirty students will be admitted each year. Another one is in Bhou Shainda in Haryana.

   * Free Literature:
     About 60-70,000 copies of one booklet are distributed free every month.

   * Religious test for children:
     Every year large number of children take a test conducted by the college according to a specified syllabus at various centres. Top 200 children are awarded special prizes.

   * Sikh Missionary Public School :
     An English-Punjabi medium school where religious knowledge is given along with quality education has been started in Ludhiana.

   * Study Circles:
     To impart religious knowledge to children as well as adults and to train missionaries, weekly classes are conducted in Study circles.

   * Training Camps :
     Three to four times every year, training camps are organised in different cities to impart religious knowledge to the masses and to train the college's missionaries.

   * Social service projects:
     Social service projects are taken up by different circles as per local needs.

Future Projects:

   * To open at least one missionary college in each district of Punjab.
   * To set up a Sikh history research institute.
   * To set up a Central reference library.
   * To translate Sikh literature into major Indian and foreign languages.
