CBIK致力于与中国西南地区的当地少数民族、民族社区和当地政府共同工作，在当地民众所面对的、迅速变化的、不稳定的环境中，通过应用传统的宇宙观、知识和创新技术，探索发展的替代途径，增强他们的生计发展和保持文化和生物多样性的能力。 CBIK还致力于促进当地的、区域性不同部门、不同文化间各级乡村社区、非政府组织、科研和政府机构的对话与交流。为达到这一目的，推行多学科研究、提倡参与式发展、磋商和沟通不同文化体系、通过网络化使信息资料共享、开展流域管理和生计发展的能力建设。CBIK aims to explore alternative development approaches for working directly with indigenous people and communities to enhance their livelihoods and maintain cultural and biological diversity through application of indigenous cosmovision, knowledge, and innovative technology in the environment of rapid change and uncertainty faced by local people in SW China.
