The City of Dublin Vocational Education Committee is the local education authority for Dublin City and its inner suburbs. It provides a wide range of opportunities for the younger generation of Dubliners, and its life-long education programme offers to adults in all age groups career-improvement, leisure, and self-development courses. A feature of the CDVEC's vibrancy in catering for all levels has been the promptness with which it has met the changing needs of Business and Industry on one hand, and geared itself to changing social conditions on the other. In schools and colleges the technological changes have been recognised, and the challenge posed by them met in terms of teaching and equipment.

The CDVEC has been well aware of the growth in service industries and the future needs of a society with ever increasing leisure time. Many of its Career Foundation Courses and pre-Third Level Courses have been designed with this in mind. The "Post Leaving Certificate/Junior Certificate Courses" section of the Guide to Courses reflects the growth in the number and range of these courses.

Programmes in full-time education for the unemployed have been successfully run at centres in Dublin and the Provinces, and Dublin City currently has Centres offering full-time courses for the unemployed.
