CEiS is a Glasgow based charitable company, limited by guarantee, working in the not-for-profit sector with social economy organisations. We have a highly successful track record for creating jobs and relieving poverty through the development of the social economy. This is achieved by working with partner organisations who share our commitment to building the social economy at a local, national and European level.

Each year we work with around 70 organisations. During 2000 we created or sustained 365 jobs at an average cost of £2,800 each. When our 2001 evaluation is complete, updated figures will be posted.

We were established in 1984 and from then on we pioneered the community business model as our approach to the emerging problem of economic exclusion. Since 1995 we have recognised the potential of a wider range of community enterprises operating within the social economy and our work confirms that these organisations provide services and job opportunities that are targeted at disadvantaged communities and groups.
