Description

Daniel Daughtry-Weiss earned the Master of Music degree in historical performance/baroque cello from Oberlin Conservatory. Daniel has honed his baroque cello skills under Catharina Meints (Cleveland Orchestra, Oberlin Conservatory), Phoebe Carrai (faculty, Universtiy of the Arts in Berlin and the Longy School of Music, formerly of Musica Antiqua Koln), Kenneth Slowick (artistic director, Baroque Performance Institute, Smithsonian Chamber Players), Brent Wissick (University of North Carolina), and Anner Bylsma. Daniel's interest in and affinity for baroque music came to the fore at Grinnell College, where he studied music history and performance practice with Elizabeth Hays. His love of music was nurtured in the Singing Boys of Houston (now known as the Houston Boys Choir) and in the choirs and ensembles of St. John's School. His earliest memories include singing in church, and he began playing cello at age five.

"I love playing the cello, and I love playing the Bach Suites. At a wedding, I have the opportunity to help elevate a truly meaningful moment, to set it apart. My goal is to open the hearts of unsuspecting listeners--bride and groom included--to the incredible meaning and value of their commitment as celebrated in the wedding vows and ceremony. Good music creates a charged atmosphere. It speaks directly to our hearts about what it means to be human and to the significance of life. What better place to have powerful, live music than at a wedding?"
