Home - Community Foundation of the Lowcountry

Community foundations are independent philanthropic organizations working in specific geographic areas which, over time, build permanent collections of endowed funds contributed from many donors. With nearly 700 community foundations nationwide holding roughly $35 billion in assets, they make up one of the fastest growing sectors of philanthropy in the U.S. today.

Any individual can contribute any amount of money to a community foundation. The foundation then invests the gifts for growth and income and uses the generated income to make grants that will strengthen the community.

In addition to making grants that benefit our area, the community foundation gives donors the power to make a difference in their community. When a donor creates a fund at the Community Foundation of the Lowcountry, they get the resources and expertise of our staff...and the service that could only come from a community foundation. We work with our donors to make sure their funds meet their needs and allow them to have an impact on the community and issues they care about.
