Description
My professional training is not in art, but in animal nutrition ... I'm actually a scientist by training. And my development as an artist has been through observation and trial-and-error, not formal education. But I'm motivated. As a young boy growing up in Hereford, Texas, I always had a interest in western and wildlife art, as well as Western American history.
For my landscape and western art, I prefer to work in oil and alkyd on canvas. It allows me to blend my colors and provides texture to certain elements of my compositions, like trees, rocks and mountains.
While living in El Guique, New Mexico in the mid- 90's, I studied the works of some of the best contemporary American southwest and western artists around Santa Fe and talked with them about their compositions, techniques and philosophies. I continually experiment with different painting styles, but prefer the traditional style of western artists like Charlie Russell.
