CHASA is the nation's leading source for information about infant and childhood hemiplegia and stroke. CHASA is a 501(c)(3) organization which exists to improve the lives of children and families affected by hemiplegia, often caused by an early stroke.
CHASA provides a 500+ page website, a listserve with over 1500 members, plans and hosts the CHASA retreat and medical conference for families of children who have hemiplegia, coordinates walkathon fundraisers, local family events, grants research awards to scientists who enage in infant or childhood stroke research, promotes childhoood stroke awareness, provides family retreat scholarships, and college scholarships for young adults who have hemiplegia or are pediatric stroke survivors. The organization also founded and promotes Childhood Stroke Awareness Day, the first Saturday in May.
Founder: Nancy Atwood. Ms. Atwood’s child had a stroke near birth and has right hemiparesis.
