Title
New Hampshire Bed and Breakfast Inns NH Country Inn Chase House Cornish NH Inn
Description
The interior of the Inn is steeped with period architectural details that reflect the intimacy of a long lost time. The large gathering room, itself a circa 1800 Federal-style house, with its fieldstone, raised-hearth fireplace and minstrel loft, the hardwood floors, the four-poster beds,
and period furnishings all combine to give the house a unique elegance. Along with having historical significance, this bed and breakfast has been given accolades by Country Inns Magazine and National Trust Guide to Historic Bed and Breakfasts, Inns and Small Hotels. It also has been awarded a three-diamond rating from AAA and and three-crown A-plus rating from the American Bed and Breakfast Association.
In 1808, the home's most famous resident, Salmon P. Chase, was born, it is believed, in the current dining room. He was President Lincoln's Secretary of the Treasury and was appointed Chief Justice of the Supreme Court. Chase is remembered as the founder of the Republican Party, and is the namesake for the Chase Manhattan Bank. His face was on the first $1 bill in 1862 when he started paper currency in the U.S. and on the recently retired $10,000 bill. Today, The Chase House is honored as one of the 18 National Historic Landmarks in New Hampshire.
