Description edit
Chop Point, Inc. is a non-profit organization operating a private k-12 school for boarding and day students, and a co-ed summer camp for teenagers.
CHOP POINT SUMMER CAMP is a Maine summer camp devoted to teenagers that combines a strong residential camping program with the excitement of an adventurous trip program. Each summer, 80 teenagers between the ages of twelve and eighteen come to Chop Point from all over the world to have one of the best summers of their lives.
There are seven activity periods during the day. Campers choose four activities to be involved in each day, over the course of the session. Some activities offer instruction to hone and improve upon skills, while others are taken just for enjoyment. Some campers spend their time on the waterfront, swimming, water-skiing, and using the boats or just talking to their friends. Others choose to be in the lodge playing pool and Ping-PongĀ®. Many enjoy playing tennis or having a pick-up game of basketball. Campers can also use free time to rest in their cabins or email home.
Chop Point offers a variety of options during each activity period, including: sailing, volleyball, aerobics, arts and crafts, windsurfing, basketball, jogging and weights, photography, swimming, tennis, ultimate FrisbeeĀ®, drama, kayaking, soccer, field sports, camp craft, canoing, water skiing, ESL, and line dancing.
Each summer Chop Point offers exciting adventure trips that build memories for a lifetime. Geared to the experience level of the campers, each trip is a fun-filled, hands-on adventure where close friendships often develop. All trips are optional, and campers can choose to go on as many or as few as they'd like. There are no extra charges for the majority of our trips. Example trips include backpacking in the White Mountains of New Hampshire, touring Quebec City (Canada), biking on Prince Edward Island (Canada), sailing the Maine coast, or canoing on the Allagash River (Maine).
CHOP POINT SCHOOL is located in North Woolwich, Maine, off Route 128, two miles down an unpaved road. The fifty acres include a mile of beautiful shoreline on historic Merrymeeting Bay. The setting is peaceful, beautiful and conducive to learning. The classrooms and library are located in 4 main buildings on the campus, many of which overlook the water.
There are many things that make Chop Point School particularly unique and wonderful, including...
* An emphasis on teaching science and social studies by experience, from on-site archeological digs to local wildlife and nature studies. * A cross-cultural program that teaches students Spanish in all grades, in preparation for a high-school social service trip to Nicaragua. * A boarding program for both boys and girls, ages 8-18. * International students, enabling all students to receive an education rich in multi-cultural learning.
