Am I only a cloud of atoms floating on a rock in a backwater corner of a galaxy that is but one among silent billions, a mere glop of carbon-based goo that came to be via the directionless whim of a faceless cosmos, an unhappy bipedal mammal with a ridiculous habit of reflecting on his own existence, a single, doomed point in the physical universe who can hope for no more out of life than to minimize his pain and suffering before passing into oblivion with all his human kin, a blip on the vast immensity of space and time who might never have even existed? Or am I something more than that? Do these feelings of significance, of purpose, of destiny, and of moral reason indicate that who I am transcends this material person? And if they do, how can I know what they signify, exactly? If you have found your way here, you should know toward which answer I tend to lean.
