Title edit
Canadian Intercollegiate Baseball Association
Description edit
The CIBA-ABIC sprang from the hearts and minds of true baseball players. They were students from various parts of the country who truly loved the game and simply wanted to play. In the absence of any formal support from the school administration, the players organized their own games.
In the early 90’s, players from Nova Scotia, Québec, Ontario and British Columbia organized their own leagues and began playing in their respective areas. In 1995, these leagues learned of each other and a tournament was arranged for the fall in Montreal. Six teams, two each from Nova Scotia, Quebec and Ontario, took part in what was then described as a National Championship. More importantly, the seeds were sewn for a true National Championship and discussions led to the creation of the CIBA-ABIC as the sport governing body.
In 1996 a formal organization was convened, forming four conferences including Atlantic, Québec, Ontario East and Ontario West. In total there were 21 teams playing a 16 game schedule plus playoffs.
