The cinematography.com web site is produced by Tim Tyler. A camera assistant turned web producer turned director of photography, Tim also operates the SteadicamForum.com web site, and has recently started a small production company in Olympia, WA USA.

The origins of cinematography.com date back to 1994 when The Camera Department Page was created. Initially a simple set of links to other web sites, (and there weren't too many back then) the site grew to include an on-line Crew List database, and shortly there after, the cinematography.com Forum.

In January of 1998, the popular cinematography.com Forum was reworked to better serve its users. Fully threaded messaging, email notification of new posts, and a friendlier user interface were implemented to satisfy the Forum's growing activity level.
