Citigroup, Inc.(NYSE:C) is a multibank financial services company, consisting of a number of financial services organizations. Citigroup provides a comprehensive assortment of financial services including banking, lending, insurance, and investment services to a worldwide customer base that includes over 200 million customer accounts in more than 100 nations.
Citigroup’s history can be traced back to 1812, with the founding of the original Citbank. The holding comapany’s group of subsidiary financial service organizations today includes Citibnak, Bank handlowy, Smith Barney, Banamex, Salomon Brothers, Citi Cards, CitiFinancial, CitiMortgage, CitiInsurance, Primerica, Diners Club, Citi Private Bank, and CitiCapital.
Consumer Banking
As of the end of first quarter, Citigroup’s global consumer banking segment’s operations included a network of more than 8,000 branches, over 19,000 automated teller machines, more than 700 automated lending machines, and Internet banking services. Services include banking, consumer lending, investment products, and insurance products.
Credit Cards
Citigroup provides more than 150 million customer credit card accounts in the United States, Canada and Puerto Rico. Citigroup’s diverse credit card offerings include Visa, MasterCard, Diners, and American Express. Additionally, Citigroup’s U.S. card services provides private label branded consumer and commercial credit card accounts for a variety of oil and gas companies and national retailers.
Lending Services
Citigroup also provides a wide array of consumer and commercial lending services. Lending programs are available for prime and sub prime mortgage loans, home equity loans, automobile financing, student loans, equipment leasing and commercial property financing, and more.
Markets and Banking
Citigroup’s markets and banking segment specializes in meeting the needs of investment and commercial banking clients. Services include investment banking, advisory services, debt and equity trading, institutional brokerage, foreign exchange, structured products, derivatives, and lending. Within this segment, Citigroup also provides cash management and trade finance services for corporations and financial institutions. Services provided to insurance companies and pension funds include custody and fund services. Additionally, this segment provides depository and agency or trust services to multinational corporations and governmental entities.
Wealth Management
Citigroup’s global wealth management segment provides investment advice, financial planning, and brokerage services to affluent companies, non-profits, affluent individuals, and high net worth clients. The company’s wealth management services include investment funds management; solutions for capital markets; trust, fiduciary, and custody services; investment financing including real estate financing, commitments, and letters of credit; banking services including deposit, checking, and savings accounts; cash management, and other banking services.
Alternative Investments Citigroup’s alternative investments segment manages products across five asset classes, as follows: private equity, hedge funds, real estate, structured products, and managed futures.
