City FM 89 was created to provide a medium of entertainment and information to a society that had, for a long time, been starved for entertainment. This new form of entertainment hoped to resurrect the lost art of radio listening, creating a community of listeners who would come together on a platform for the sake of enjoying themselves.
But there was more; during the last 25-30 years, we felt that with the pace of Westernization, Pakistan’s own musical legacy was fast vanishing. City FM 89 took on the challenge of resurrecting rich musical traditions and a fast-dissipating cultural legacy that had no medium to make its voice heard.
City FM 89 was created keeping in mind that music has the power to bring people together. Here was a station that would provide entertainment to people by entering into their lives and homes and communicating with them on a personal, more intimate level. At a time when it was considered unsafe to attend concert performances outside the home, City FM 89 brought about the notion of not just listening to music with the family but also music with mobility, whether driving in a car, or taking a walk in the park.
