Clemson University is South Carolina's state public university and a Land Grant Institution.

Situated in a 1,400-acre campus on the shores of Lake Hartwell, over looking the Blue Ridge Mountains. 18,000 acres more land as around it with university’s research farms and woodlands.

In all, they offer 70 undergraduate and 100 graduate degree programs, including Aerospace Studies, Agricultural Education, Architecture, Civil Engineering, Economics, Environmental Engineering and Science, History, Horticulture, Microbiology, Plant Pathology and Physiology, Policy Studies, Sociology, Technology and Human Resource Development, Turfgrass Management, Wildlife and Fisheries Biology etc., besides, many conventional programs.

Student Body

Consists of more than 12,000 undergraduate and more than 4,000 graduate students, drawn mainly from Carolina state but includes students from other states and countries as well.

Brief History

Clemson University was founded in November 1889 as per the vision of Thomas Green Clemson, a noble man dedicated his entire life farm / agriculture work, by establishing the Clemson Agricultural College.

  • 35th -among all public universities as per U.S. News & World Report.
  • 23rd -among most wired college and university campuses as per The Princeton Review, 2003.
  • Five programs in the College of Engineering and Science appeared among the top 50, as per U.S. News & World Report's.
  • TIME magazine honored Clemson as the 2001 Public College of the Year for Clemson's Communication-Across-the-Curriculum program.
  • 14th - Department of Environmental Engineering and Science, for its programs among peers as per U.S. News & World Report.
  • Clemson's Army ROTC program is in the top 15 percent in the nation according to the U.S. Army Cadet Command.
  • 31st - in Intel's "Most Unwired College Campuses,” 2004 list for wifi interent connectivity.

University Media

Clemson University has 6 vibrant media organizations on campus where students involve and gain valuable hands-on experience. Semantics, the art, literary and variety magazine; TAPS, the yearbook; The Tiger, the newspaper; The Tiger Town Observer, a conservative journal; WSBF, the radio broadcasting station; and Clemson Cable Network (CCN) are completely student operated, providing full opportunity for students to gain knowledge of basic journalism to advertising. The Media Advisory Board of CU is the governing board of these operations.

Housing

Clemson’s has large housing schemes, in both east and west campuses. In the former, accommodation is available for a total of 1725 persons in the Lever, Byrnes, Manning, Mauldin, Barnett and Smith buildings whereas in the latter, accommodation is available for a total of 365 persons in the Johnstone complex, for 406 in the Clemson House and more than 1600 elsewhere. Accommodation is also, available in the Fraternity & Sorority Housing and the Apartments (for 1915) and in Thornhill Village.

Library and Information Systems

Clemson’s have a vast library with hundreds of thousands volumes and a large collection of electronically accessible materials. The university’s wireless connectivity and lap-top net access earned it accolades.

Outreach

Clemson University has provided public service programs to citizens, communities, businesses and public agencies since inception and evolving to suit changing needs. Its research and outreach program involve Agri-systems Productivity & Profitability, Economic & Community Development, Environmental Conservation, Food Safety & Nutrition, and Youth Development & Families.
