Clogau Gold of Wales : Fine Jewellery, Watches & Giftware
Description edit
About Clogau Gold of Wales Ltd.
One spring morning in 1854 Mr Goodman, a director of the Clogau (pronounced “clog-eye”) copper mine, casually picked-up a piece of waste rock and broke it in two. As he expected, the cracked fragments showed no trace of copper. What he didn’t expect was the glittering yellow metal that was revealed.
From that day on, the abandoned copper mine was given a rich new life. It became the first seam of the Clogau St. David’s Gold Mine producing the rare Welsh rose gold. The mine now lies inactive in the wild hills of Bontddu, Snowdonia; it simply became too difficult to mine. The miners who worked the mine right up to 1995 were the direct descendants of those original Victorian prospectors.
The small, though steady, supply of gold extracted from the Clogau seams has made it perhaps the rarest in the world. This means Clogau Gold has only a very small amount of gold left. These days, highly skilled designers and craftsmen are employed by Clogau Gold. They use their artistry and expertise to fashion this rarest of precious metals into exclusive Jewellery.
