Additional Information

The imaginary Burg of Clyde (i.e. Clydeburg) is filled with original music, poetry, essays, creative writing, and artwork in many mediums --from animated cartoons to quite impressive oil paintings. Clyde's computer stories and his "Essay on Computer Fiction" explore how the shape of our writing instruments controls the shape of our writing. "A computer story has a lot in common with music." List says, "Interactive fiction reminds me of picking the banjo down at the local Saturday Market. The story has to be repeated over and over again because of the way the audience is always shifting about. It's no use trying to focus on one beginning or ending to a tale." List finds Hollywood movies unbearable to watch ever since he began his experiments with computer fiction. "Hollywood can add all the noise and color she wants to a story line, but it won't cure my boredom. I want to see all the story lines the writers came up with. I don't want to spend two hours watching a fancy build-up for just one 'The End.' I want to see all 'The Ends' the writers had in mind."
Clyde's fascination with the Robin Hood legend is something else. It goes back to a time when being an "Englishman" meant sharing a view of the world beyond that of a particular country. "With the end of World War II, the world became more confusing for us in Sherwood Oregon U.S.A.," List explains, "Naturally, we yearned for the days when the Sun could not possibly set on the folks that welcomed Lewis and Clark and all the rest of us to the Pacific Northwest."
