Senator John Kerry has called Grant Woodard "a future U.S. Senator from the state of Iowa and the future of Iowa politics" and the Iowa Democratic Party named Grant a "Rising Star" of Iowa politics in June of 2003. Sen. Ted Kennedy says Grant "brilliantly organized students for Kerry," and that he represents a "new generation of leaders for the Democratic Party and our country." Born and raised in the rural town of Stratford, Iowa (pop. 700), Grant, 22, is a senior history major at Grinnell College in Iowa.
As President of College Democrats of America, Grant is the chair of the student wing of the Democratic National Committee and works closely with the party's leadership on youth outreach. Former Chairman Terry McAuliffe has called Grant, who is also a member of the Democratic National Committee and its Executive Board, the "greatest National President in the history of College Democrats." In April 2004, Current Magazine named Grant one of its 15 members - and only "Politician" - of "The Vanguard," the next generation of American Leaders.
During Grant's tenure, CDA has grown immensely. The reach of CDA's national network has more than doubled to more than 1,200 campuses throughout all 50 states. Thanks to CDA's impressive new eChapters online database system, College Democrats can communicate and track membership data better than ever before.
