Title

ColorQ World: interracial relations between non-Europeans

Description

ColorQ.org talks about relations between different marginalized groups. Much of the US focus on race relations (whether in fiction or non-fiction) centers around Europeans Americans vs other ethnic groups. There is little attention paid to relations between people of color, both on screen and in print.

Most media stories of negative race relations tell of white prejudice against towards people of color. Oppressive behavior between non-white groups is under-reported. Although some European Americans do practice bigotry, people of color too are equally capable of bigoted behavior. Awareness and healing is necessary between non-white groups just as it is between whites and non-whites.

When it comes to portrayals of positive interracial relations like partnerships and intermarriages, white-colored liaisons are disproportionately represented, compared to partnerships between non-Europeans. For example, many books have been written about relations between European Americans and African or Native Americans, but there are few published stories of unions between Native Americans and African Americans, despite the fact that people of African-Native American heritage are common in American life.
