Wiki edit

edit Costco

Costco made its entry into the world of shopping in San Diego, 1976. It is a discount warehouse joint. It has shops dotted all over USA and has made its name in thirty-six states. It also conducts its warehouse operations in Canada as well as UK. Costco is a known name also in Taiwan, Japan, Korea as well as Mexico. It is interesting to find out what Costco has to offer.

Costco is a retail web site offering products covering the following zones. It is all about appliances, computers, books, DVD’s, electronics, cameras and photographic equipments, furniture, tools and gadgets, hardware, software, health care products, jewelry, office goods, pharmaceutical goods, sports and entertainment products, tickets, tires, travel and wines, beverages and food as well as gift baskets.

Apart from this physical stuff that one can pick off the shelf, Costco has a host of other things to offer. It is all about personal services like arranging mortgages, planning finance, home equity loans, life insurance, auto loans and other allied services.

Costco site is a bonanza for business circles. It offers facilities for check printing, payroll and credit card processing, training of employers online etc. Note should be taken that these have been made possible by Costco associating and affiliating itself with the relevant sections of business.

edit Online shopping

To go about the business of shopping on the web site of Costco it is not required that you would have to be a member but to complete the order you will have to open an account. Load up your cart but at the final exit point, it is but natural that you will have to sign in your account. It is very simple. You enter your name, postal address phone number and e-mail address. This enables you to enter a password. Details of your credit card number are not required initially but will be necessary later on when the transaction will be made.

edit Payment methods

Costco accepts payment by the following methods – American Express, Visa, Discover, MasterCard or Costco credit card. Shipping and handling is added to the bill and the rate is fairly uniform irrespective of the type of goods that has been bought. Sales Tax is added and if you are not already a Costco member than an additional 5% will be charged on the total. Membership is presently selling for $45. So if you are planning to buy then it is better and more economical to go for a Costco membership right away without delay.

Costco can be contacted very easily. Either you click and go on to the web site or you avail of the toll free phone facility. The web site is the best option to get answers to more general inquiries like membership details or what to do with articles that you want to return etc. But for more personal and specific inquiries it is advisable to avail of the toll free number and phone.

edit Goals

What is the main aim of Costco? This large warehouse operation aims to save its members money on essentials like clothing, food items. It also gives the best rates for luxury items and sees to it that the customer gets the best value for his or her money. As in other like clubs like Wal Mart’s it is expected that one enrolls for a Costco membership.

The word ‘warehouse’ brings to the mind a huge construction or go down where countless articles are stored. In this way it is a warehouse in cyberspace. Costco offers the same things at less price. One can click and find out the truth of this statement. This applies to all sorts of items – appliances, furniture, books etc. Of course you will notice the difference only when you are a Costco member. Most customers speak highly of what Costco offers in the field of hardware and office products. The best thing is that merchandise can be returned without much hassle – that is if the customer lives near the Costco warehouse store. If the address is a bit way out then directions on the merchandise slip will have to be followed. But the shops seem to be everywhere!

Costco.com customers just cannot get out of the habit of coming back to it again and again. Some of its products are really unique and cannot be got at other outlets. However, it is well to keep in mind that without a membership card Costco.com can prove to be expensive. So it is a real bargain in the long run to become a member.

Some Costco clients are especially impressed with their travel services. It is more so for the on-the-spot wanderers who cannot be bothered with too much planning ahead. For them Costo.com is a real blessing. It is just a matter of clicking on the travel section of the web site. The prices are the same as with other travel agencies but Costco might pop in a surprise free packet of a breakfast, for instance along with a $ gift card.

Title

The title of a web page appears in search results as the link to that page. Learn more ...

Purpose

The title of a web page appears as a clickable link in search results and bookmarks. A descriptive, compelling home page title with relevant keywords can increase the number of people visiting the site.

Search Engines

Search engines view the text of the title tag as a strong indication of what the page is about. Accurate keywords in the title tag can help the page rank better in search results.

Length

A title tag should have fewer than 70 characters, including spaces. Major search engines won't display more than that.

Content

The title tag of your home page (and any other page on your site) should not contain the site’s domain name or URL. These will appear near the title in search results, so use your 70 characters to tell people what the page is about. The title tag should not contain any HTML, because it will be displayed incorrectly or not at all.

  • Good: This web page has a title tag.
  • Good: The title tag is a good length.

Welcome to Costco Wholesale

Meta Description

Search engines often use the meta description of a web page to describe it in search results. Learn more ...

Purpose

The meta description tells searchers what a web page is about. It is often displayed below the title in search results, and helps people decide if they want to visit that website.

Length

Search engines will read 200 to 250 characters, but usually display only 150, including spaces. The first 150 characters of the meta description should contain the most important keywords for that web page. Using fewer than 50 characters could mean you’re not saying enough about the page.

Content

The meta description should be engaging, and should include keywords that accurately reflect what visitors will find on the web page. The keywords should be the same ones that a site's potential customers are using to search. Include a site’s location if it is important.

  • Problem: The meta description is either empty or missing entirely.

H1 Headings

The H1 heading is an important sentence or phrase on a web page that quickly and clearly tells people and search engines what they can expect to find there. Learn more ...

Just one H1

In most cases, a web page should have just one H1 heading. Using multiple H1 headings is okay if that is a logical way to organize the page, but they should be used sparingly. That’s because search engines can view multiple H1 headings as an attempt to signal that all the content on a page is equally important, a tactic that’s seen as an attempt to game the search engine algorithms.

Purpose

Search engines look for an H1 heading to determine what a page is about. Human visitors do, too.

Content and placement

The H1 heading appears on the web page itself, unlike the page title, which people will see mostly in search results.

The H1 tag (which contains the H1 heading) is usually listed first among the other heading tags for a page. None of the major search engines, however, will penalize a site for listing H2 through H6 tags ahead of the H1 tag.

The H1 heading for a page should be different from its title. Each can target different important keywords for better SEO.

  • Good: This page has one H1 heading.

Robots

Your website's robots.txt file can tell search engines to ignore parts of your site. Learn more ...

Purpose

Website owners usually use robots.txt to let search engines know which pages or sections of their site shouldn't be indexed — for example, web contact forms, print versions of web pages and other content that's duplicated elsewhere on the site. Robots.txt can also be used to request that specific robots not index a site. For more information, read How To Use Robots.txt.

Be careful!

If you're going to use robots.txt, be careful not to accidentally exclude search engines from pages you want people to find. To learn more, read Don't Block Search Engine Crawlers.

Search engine robots

You'll need to know the names of specific search engine robots - or "bots" – if you’re going to exclude any or all of them from any part of your site.

  • Google’s bot is called Googlebot. Google is the world’s largest search engine, and is where many people discover new websites.
  • Bing’s bot is called msnbot. Bing also provides search results to people using Yahoo to search the Web. Together, Bing and Yahoo are the second largest search resource, after Google.
  • Baidu’s bot is called Baiduspider. Baidu is a major search engine in China, and the number of people using it is increasing rapidly.
  • AboutUs.org’s bot is called AboutUsBot. To create a Site Report, AboutUs uses crawling technology that’s similar to what search engines use.
  • Good: This website’s robots.txt file is not blocking major search engines from crawling its pages. Your website can appear in any engine’s search results.

Canonical Url

This website can live at www.Costco.com or Costco.com. It's best for your site's visibility to live at just one URL, or web address. You'll want to create a 301 redirect to the URL you choose from the other URL. Learn more ...

Choose one or the other

Whichever of these URLs you choose, make sure your website lives ONLY at that location, which is called the canonical URL for your site.

Be careful!

If you choose www.MyWebsite.com for your site, make sure people who don't type www can get to your site, too. Create a permanent 301 redirect from MyWebsite.com to www.MyWebsite.com.

If the same web page exists at two different URLs, people can choose to link to one or the other. Links from other sites to your website are valuable — they tell search engines that your site is important to people. By splitting valuable links between two identical pages, you're diluting the power of those links to help a page rank higher in search results.

  • Warning: Your website resides at www.Costco.com, and Costco.com is temporarily redirected to it. You should permanently redirect it instead, using a 301 redirect.
