About Us
The idea for Checkpoint Adventures began in 2004 while Kevin Fordham was working on the Midnight Rush Adventure Race (MRAR) for the Trailblazers Adventure Racing Club (TBARC). He thought it would be pretty exciting to put on his own races too. He knew he could put on a successful race, he just needed some good people around him to make it happen. During the creation of the MRAR, Jim Farmer and Tony Berwald served as advisors for the many questions he had. He was again able to tap their collective knowledge with the planning of a new adventure race, the Adventure24 Adventure Race. The beginning of 2005 rolled around and Checkpoint Adventures, LLC was born.
Directing an adventure race is a pretty difficult task. You have to be extremely orgainized and be able to multi task with the best of them. You also need great people around you. Knowing that a successful race would need more than one person, Kevin recruited Cathi Cannon to assist him with Race Director tasks as well as be the Volunteer Director. Cathi was also tasked with designing the race logo. Kevin and Cathi received very postive feedback from the first Adventure24 and decided to make it an annual event.
As athletes, we enjoy both racing and directing events. We choose to put on events that we ourselves would want to race. Our race ideas stem from events that we would like to participate in; and we hope you will enjoy them too. What's in store for the future? For 2006 we are introducing a new event, the Ultra O-gaine...ULTRA distance Orienteering and roGAINE. Patrick Bair has also joined the staff and will be working mainly to direct the Ultra O-gaine. We've got lots of ideas for many different future events. Some are in the works, and some are just ideas. Stay tuned to find out what becomes the next Checkpoint Adventures event.
