WHAT IS BARKADA?
barkada in tagalog means a group of friends. we are a group of friends whose aim is to promote the recognition and understanding of the pilipino culture at the california polytechnic state university, pomona and our surrounding community.
THE B-WORD
"we chose barkada, because we felt that is the name that describes us best. we didn't want to have a traditional filipino club name such as filipiniana, samahan... etc. barkada has a bad connotation about it, but we really looked at it as a group of friends displaying true friendships. we were all close even outside of school. we looked after one another and helped each other out. we were brothers and sisters."
