Consumer Product Safety Commission

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission is a federal agency that oversees the safety of products purchased and used by U.S. residents.

The agency takes reports on unsafe consumer products from both businesses and consumers. CPSC also publishes product safety standards, informs the public about product recalls, and provides information on the safety of products as varied as baby cribs, gasoline containers and ground-fault circuit interrupters.

The CPSC's work to protect people from products causing injury by fire, chemicals, electricity or mechanical failure has contributed to a 30-percent decline in consumer-product-related deaths and injuries over the past 30 years.
