Description
The island of Crete is located south of the Aegean Sea (between Europe, Asia and Africa) and it has always been a pole of attraction for tourists.
It is the largest island of Greece and the fifth largest island of the Mediterranean. Its whole length from west to east is about 260 kilometers. The geological changes the island has incurred with the passage of time has enriched it with caves and stone shelters which are linked with its history but also with the Christian religion.
(Even today there are many churches in Cretan caves).2/3 of Crete’s surface is composed of mountainous areas with very tall mountain ranges and deep wild gorges. A popular gorge is the Samarian gorge which is the longest in Europe.
