Cross City Campaign for Urban School Reform
Description edit
Cross City Campaign is a strong, national network of school reform leaders from across the country. Members of our board reside in: Baltimore, Chicago, Denver, Houston, Los Angeles, New York, Oakland, Philadelphia, and Seattle and represent parents, advocates, community organizers, teachers, students, principals, central office administrators, researchers, policy analysts, union officials and funders. Our network includes many other large urban school districts as we continue to grow and attract new cities.
As a national organization with unique expertise in local school and school district budgeting, Cross City Campaign routinely monitors and provides analysis of the budgets of urban public school districts. We train parents, students, principals and teachers to read and understand their school budgets. We work with all players to understand the link between budgets and improving student achievement. And we are called on when dollars are tight and cuts are imminent to analyze cost cutting decisions and offer alternatives.
The Oakland Unified School District (OUSD) has been in "receivership" for two years. State Administrator, Randy Ward, has released a Multi-Year Fiscal Recovery Plan for restoring the financial health of the district. Cross City Campaign is in the process of reviewing this plan.
