In 1986, the CUMIS Group and the Co-operators Group launched an historic joint marketing initiative called the Credit Union Insurance Services (CUIS) program. The singular purpose of the CUIS program is to serve its exclusive market - the Canadian co-operative financial system, which includes credit unions, caisses populaires, provincial centrals and francophone federations, the Credit Union Central of Canada and Concentra Financial.
The CUIS mandate is to provide insurance products, ranging from life and health to accident and sickness to property and casualty; and special services such as business development programs, insurance technology support and financial planning. Each corporate sponsor specializes in specific product lines, and concentrates its efforts in those areas. Both insurance organizations share equally in the financial results and costs of the program, including premiums, claims and operating expenses.
The CUIS program has allowed for the integration of both organization's insurance products and services, providing financial co-operatives with a portfolio of the best insurance and related services. Since its inception, CUIS has contributed to the strength of the co-operative financial system through product development and improved communication channels between financial co-operatives and their insurers.
