Description

The Surrey Municipal Employee's Association has been representing public workers in the Fraser Valley since September 6, 1947, when it was certified as local no 6. When a charter was granted by the National Union of Public Employees on August 16, 1950, it became Local 402. Our local sent three delegates to the CUPE founding convention: William Stevens, Delbert Milligan and Verna King - the only woman among BC's seventy representatives.*

Currently CUPE 402 has over 1400 full and part time members. A full time President, one hard working office staff person, and permanent offices located in central Surrey.

We are proud of our history of fighting for pay equity for our female sisters. We can take pride in our history of supporting working people everywhere.
